Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights, Red Hook, Harlem, the South Bronx, Sunnyside, Tottenville, Alaska, California, Singapore, Israel and Ireland. These are just some of the neighborhoods and countries our visitors call home.

This summer, we asked Governors Island visitors to tell us where they were from. More than 10,000 of our record 128,000 visitors told us their zip code or home country to help us learn this important bit of information. What did we learn?

From New York City, residents of Manhattan and Brooklyn make up the largest percentage of visitors, but our visitors come from a wide and diverse array of neighborhoods in all boroughs.

The vast majority of Island visitors are from New York City (76%), with about 11% coming from other states, 8% coming from New York State outside of the City, and another 5% coming from other countries. Governors Island is also becoming increasingly popular with tourists. The percentage of tourists visiting the Island has doubled in the last year.
