Last month, we asked you to start thinking about a name for the new public open space we’re introducing this summer on the southern tip of Governors Island. The “competition” is still open, so there’s still time to send us your ideas, or let us know if you like any of the ones already submitted. Just add yours to the comments section below. Remember, the new picnic and play area is not really a “park,” though we’re planning one right now with West 8.
So far, we’ve recieved a number of really smart and funny suggestions, and we wanted to share them with you:

I greatly appreciate the coming up with names. My vote is for “Freedom Point,” although they are all great names. I was most fortunate to be stationed on Governors Island from 1961-63 as a draftee. Ha! Yes there was an Army draft, even in a “cold war,” pardon the pun.
Many times I have tried to write an account of my times there as “The View from Governors Island.” There was so much to write about. As a result of my time on that small island, I came to love the big island of Manhattan as well. Thus I’m a confirmed New York-a-phile.
