Kids and families enjoy the Family Festival
Thank you to everyone who came out to Governors Island this past weekend to help kick off the 2009 season. Saturday was our biggest opening day yet, with 8,000 visitors coming out. And once everyone got here, there was so much to do, including the Governors Island Alliance’s Family Festival, watching Prince Harry play polo in the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic, and of course car free biking, picnicking and art exhibitions. On Sunday, another 2,000 visitors came to the Island, many of whom watched Zvi Dance’s free dance performance White in Fort Jay. If you missed opening weekend, there are still many more to come in the 2009 season. We hope to see you out on the Island!

What a glorious day it was! I went over for the opening day Family Festival and discovered the polo match. Prince Harry obviously drew a big crowd of adoring young ladies. It was a street photographers paradise. What an incredible inheritance we New Yorkers got from our Uncle Sam. Governor’s Island has become my favorite place in the city.
