Let the lounging begin

Your hammock awaits...

Your hammock awaits...

Governors Island’s newest picnic space, Picnic Point, overlooking the expanse of New York harbor and the Statue of Liberty is open to the public. Picnic tables, benches, swings, picnic cabanas and a working farm are all on their way this summer. This weekend visitors enjoyed a new crop of bright red hammocks and soaked up the summer sun and breezes. Island visitors kicked up their heels at the Jazz Age festival with the Dreamland Orchestra, then sauntered or bicycled down to Picnic Point and put up their feet for some Island relaxation. Additional hammocks will soon be available throughout the Island. If you are on the Island enjoying FIGMENT this weekend, be sure to head south and take in the views from a cheerful red hammock!
