Governors Island Will Be Closed on Saturday and Sunday – Open Friday

Welcome to Governors Island

Governors Island, a 172 acre island in the heart of New York Harbor, is only 800 yards from Lower Manhattan, and even closer to Brooklyn. It is a world unto itself, unique and full of promise.

The Trust for Governors Island is working to make the Island a destination with great public open space, as well as future education, not for profit and commercial facilities. The Bloomberg Administration is investing more than $250 million to build an extraordinary new park and public spaces and to bring the Island's infrastructure into the 21st century.

Governors Island Will Be Closed on Saturday and Sunday – Open Friday

Due to Hurricane Irene, Governors Island will be closed on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28. All programs and exhibits are cancelled.

The Island is open as usual today for all activities, including Free Bike Fridays.

The Dave Matthews Band Caravan concert will proceed this evening as planned but the Saturday and Sunday shows are postponed. Ticketholders for Saturday and Sunday are welcome to come to today’s show. New dates for the Caravan shows will be announced on their website, www.dmbcaravan.com as soon as they are confirmed.

We hope to see everyone out here next weekend on the Island in better weather!
