Field Report: Another new bridge

Last October we reported on the installation of the west lift bridge at Soissons Landing. Now she has a brand spanking new sister in the east slip.  The bridge was floated in from Bayonne and is now being put through her paces of all the ups and downs required to work with the ferry boats.

When you make your way to Governors Island from Manhattan over the weekend, take a moment to notice our new lift bridges!

  1. I served in the Army(WACS) on the Island in 1950’s and fell in love with the location and surounding beauty. The transformation that is presently being done is most interesting. The article “Useless Beauty” pubiished in the 2009 New Yorker certainly gives incite to the enormity of the project. Perhaps it should be made available to the public. As for myself I would love to visit the Island but at 82 traveling isn’t that easy.
