Olafur Eliasson’s New York City Waterfalls are ON!

. . . and the view from Governors Island is amazing! From the Island, you can see three out of the four New York City Waterfalls. Here’s a photo I took from the Coursen (our ferry boat) on my way to work this morning. I was too entranced by the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Piers waterfalls to notice if we could see the one on the Manhattan waterfront from our ferry, so I’ll have to check that out tonight.

For the sole purpose of tooting our own horn, I will note that the Governors Island waterfall made Curbed‘s top two list (out of four) of favorite New York City Waterfalls.  But at the risk of starting an intra-harbor rivalry, I must point out that our waterfall has the added allure of falling on top of real rocks at low tide. Mysteries of Olafur Eliason’s New York City Waterfalls Revealed . . .

This week’s New York Magazine has a great article on Olafur Eliasson’s New York City Waterfalls project that answers most of the questions folks are starting to ask us about the installations.

Since one of the New York City waterfalls is right here on Governors Island, we watched it slowly rise above our ferry dock this winter. Check out these cool pics one of our staff members took during its construction:
